We patronised for dinner two days in a row- largely because of the seasonal American dessert series (that only lasts for a week), and the engaging service.
Splashes of red and white. This deli beared a certain resemblence to Billy Bombers except with a unique colonnial touch to it. There were hits & misses foodwise but desserts left a solid impression.
Grilled Salmon Steak ($18.95)
Dad & i both had this on our first visit. I couldn't quite figure why he loved it despite the poor marination and bland drizzlings of dill cream sauce. Nothing too impressive overall, perhaps maybe that garlic mash... nicely done to an ultra smooth texture.
Lox, Stock & Bagel ($14.95)
Grilled Rye bread sounded like a good substitute for the bagel (tough and heavy in my impression). Fillingwise there were the usual suspects of smoked salmon, onions, capers and cream cheese- an unfailing comfort food of mine.
Nova Scotia Salmon came in thick large rolls on an unbearably tough bread- i swore cutting and chewing was a chore.
Footlong Beef Dog ($14.95)
LLLLLLLLOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGGG is the perfect word to describe it. A skinny dog on an elongated sesame bun with fries. Dad obviously skipped the latter.
Pecan Pie with Tahitian Vanilla Icecream ($12)
We got the Whisky Raisin icecream replaced with Tahitian Vanilla- selected from the Raffles Creamery menu. The pie itself was a credible version. My first attempt at it yet the warm chocolately nature and chockfull of nuts already took to my liking.
American Carrot Cake ($15)
The next day we returned for this which oooh... won me over! Its amazing how an odd mix of carrot shreds, walnut bits and spices could taste so good. This slice came remarkably moist, delectably releasing a tone of spices and coated in a lovely cream cheese frosting.
Not only the food wow-ed, service was equally pleasurable. Bound to be back.
