Carl's Jr.

i happily walked into Plaza Singapura's Carls Jr...

This is it. My well-loved chicken burger~

Charbroiled BBQ Chicken Sandwich ($7.70)

3 words to describe it:
Fresh, huge and addictive!

Nice honey wheat bun, sweet delectable BBQ sauce and of course.. an amazingly large and luscious chicken breast patty. Every bite of it revealed meat so tender, flavoursome and juicy, it beats Macs, BK or any other fastfood chain handsdown.

A whopping damage incurred, but 100% satisfaction guranteed.

To think of it, i ought thank this lunching partner of mine. Shar was the one bestie girlfriend who introduced such a wonder to me.

Western Bacon Cheeseburger

Her giant meal featured a charbroiled all-beef patty, two strips of bacon, melted American cheese, two crispy onion rings and tangy BBQ sauce on a sesame seed bun. What a feast.

Beef Chilli Cheese Fries

Shoestring potatoes smothered in hearty chili sauce and topped with grated cheese. Of course, i wasn't able to attempt this.

Seriously think this american establishment lives up to its name of quality mega charbroiled burgers. Though prices are a tad more expensive, the food is definitely worthy to pay for. Just the sizes are already justifyable enough.

and i made a happy exit... with all cravings satisfied.

Tims Restaurant & Cafe

This is no need to head down to town just for a decent western meal. Mum's recent recommendation of an unpretentious cafe at Toa Payoh managed to wow.

Joined her and Sis for dinner, no-frills western & nepalese food.

According to mum, the chef Tom previously worked for The Vines Restaurant before deciding to venture out on his own. Being a Nepalese, he also included a couple of authentic Nepalese dishes apart from the range of seafood & steak selections.

I opted for a set at just $2.80 more, with a soup drink and dessert.

Complimentary Garlic Bread

Served automatically, one for each diner. These slabs with perfected toasting results in cripsy edges and a soft centre of the right amount of garlic spread. Certainly one of the best i've tasted.

Cream of Chicken & Cauliflower Soup

The homecooked thickness was there and had shreds of chicken. Passable i feel, but still lacked the quality kick.

Mum's value grilled fish was a steal at $5.

Grilled Fish ($5)

Cajun Salmon ($10.50)

Yet another fanciful butterfly cut with the skins folded (think Cedele), just slightly more elongated. The salmon did take me by surprise, probably due to my lower expectations of a Heartland cafe.

Although no obvious cajun flavour, it was still reasonably tasty and well-going with the red & white carrot accompaniments. Those potato slices were also the yummiyest ever! Only let down was the odd spicyness from the mango salsa topping.

Grilled Chicken & Salmon Combo ($10.80)

Chocolate Cheese Loaf

My set ended with a tea and day's dessert which sis refused to go any further with after her first bite. A mediocre piece of dry choc cake with a savoury cheesy twist at its base.

Dishes are mostly true to its value, especially with no service charge or GST. So skip the ERP and head down to the heartlands whenever a western crave strikes.

Hokkaido Delights @ Sun with Moon

Dinner with Dad the day before he left for Shanghai. We were sheer lucky to get a table here without any reservations made.

Where top-notch ambience is matched with high-quality japanese food. We usually
go for their Kamameshis but this time there was an special menu featuring hokkaido food! Hard to resist not picking from it.

Ikura Kodon ($19.80)

Salmon roe on rice bowl- so typical of something Dad would love.

Was pretty much fed up with the atrocious long wait for my order- dad was already finishing yet i still saw no sight of it. Decided to enquire with the waitress and realised that it was sent to the wrong table.. and apparently sipped up by them. Hence a longer wait for a new one to be cooked while that innocent table got an extra $16 charged to their bill. hah.

Ishikarinabe ($15.80)

Salmon miso hotpot with assorted vegetables. An undistinct miso soup with three fatty salmon slabs, carrots, a shiitake mushroom and chunks of potatoes. Didn't think very much of it.

I knew we just had to this a particular dessert...

Ichigo Cheesecake ($5.80)

Available for the seasonal period only! Very much firmer than the tofu cheesecake, with an extra fruity strawberry flavour. Standard digestives base.

This place has got standards akin to some fine-dining establishments, and the obvious winner factor is no doubt the efforts put into the food's aesthetic presentation.

Every dish is served like an artpiece.

Greenwood Revisited

Back for more fishy business. A family affair today for Dad's early birthday celebration- with the bill generously footed by Mum.

We were served bread this time...

homemade Foccacia slice

Lovely. Amazingly light and savoury with a salted crisp crust.

Char-grilled Norwegian Salmon ($19.95)

Sis & i ordered the same dish.

Prior to my previous disappointment from their Atlantic Chinook Salmon, i'm convinced that a Norwegian salmon would better do for me this time. Being down-to-earth proved a wise choice made; the fish beared much more firmness than raw flaky one i had. Loved the wonderful sauce, akin to honey mustard, and the sweet potato mash as well.

Crumbed Fish & Chips ($17.95)

Mum had their signature which came with good homemade thai chilli & tartar sauce. The fish was fresh but too small in portion.

Char-grilled Mahi Mahi ($26.95)

The dish made Dad love this place even more... so i guess another return is highly possible.

Back to Canele

Something new for me.

Chloe ($7)

madaleiene sponge, citrus yogurt bavarois, peach, rice krispies

Bavarois was mousse-like, masterfully whipped thick & creamy and smacking with a light touch of peach fragrance. The sponges were soaked so moist they beared no dry aftertaste at all. Sweetness kept strictly in moderation.

Macha ($6.50)

Another one of this for Dad. It boasts of greentea marscaporne cheese, chestnut cremuex, greentea biscuit, and an almond crumble to contrast. Wonderful combination- except that the base was a tad thick and overbaked today.

Rosy Pink Tea ($5.50)

Chef Pang Kok Keong never fails to amaze me (:

Fei Fei Wanton Noodles

I call this a bowl of villager noodles; simply yet able to content.

It is rare to find such fresh handmade noodles these days, which are visibly less yellow and offers a more pleasant afterback effect than factory-produced ones. The slightly thicker strands are able to retain its springyness despite being cooked soft- best for those looking for something easy to chew.

Wantons are plump and well-seasoned, but the artificially orange charsiew slices were a letdown. One final plus point had to be that light delectable taste paired with their potent chilli. I felt the oomph just right.

For $2.50, it is unquestionably worth returning for.

Out of the Pan

Crepes make a perfect light meal, sweet waffles draw lovely endings.

This is one place where you can savour the best of both worlds. Located just around the central fountain of Raffles Marketplace is a modern creperie dishing creations of Asian and European infusion. A dinner with just Dad & Sis.

For a limited time period until December, they introduced a series of Seafood delight selections. I was so keen on having the baked lobster crepe but was saddened to hear it was not available. Ended up with my usual.

Baked Prawn Otah ($16.50)

Choose from plain, whole-wheat or sundried tomato crepe.

I love this local-styled creation best. Generous pieces of fresh succulent prawns smothered in a mild mushy otah paste. The slight spice added much excitement to the lovely whole-wheat crepe, always done soft and rubbery.

Pan-fried Norwegian Salmon ($15.50)

Yum Yum Mushrooms ($13.50)

Daddy then suggested we shared a dessert and left the choice to me. Without a doubt, i knew it would be their marvellous waffles!

Fresh Berries Waffle ($11.50)

I seriously have much to rave about their waffles here. Not just a pretty face, they taste so good as well!

This heavenly slab comes impressively substantial, offering firm chewy pleasures plus a fragrant hint of cinnamon spice. Perfect with the custard cream in-betweens, as well as a scoop of their thick homemade vanilla icecream. Yummy.

The ambience may be a little odd with countless pairs of eyes giving you unnecessary attention; but the food is worth that sacrifice.

White Dog Cafe

What a quirky weird name to have.

Entering, a youthful vibe greets with its bright sofas and eclectic decor. Italian, French and Japanese fusion all under one roof.

Set Lunch at $10.80+ comes with a standard soup, and a tea. Choose from a range of meat mains, pasta or baked rice and add desserts at extra charges.

Chicken Consomme

This saltish starter didnt not manage to impress at all. Clear MSG-packed chicken stock with tiny chicken chunks and a slice of lousy garlic baguette.

The seafood lover's obvious choice once again...

Japanese Panfried Glazed Salmon Fillet

At least it didn't fare too badly. The portion have very much improved with the fish marinated well enough. Served with salad and one small clump of buttered rice.

Cheesy Baked Rice with Chicken and Cream Sauce

Decided not to skip desserts here since i could get a slice of cake off the fridge at an additional $3.50. Furthermore, their bestseller recommended by the waitress happened to be my favourite!

Blueberry Cheesecake

High hopes meant a high disappointment. This is so far one of the worst renditions, leaving me totally dissatisfied. The cheese was horridly wet and oversoft while the base and jam topping didn't score any better. To think such a standard could still become a bestseller.

Warm Chocolate Cake ($5.80)

A smarter move was to opt for their specialty dessert instead. Still a short fall below expectations (anticipated some flowing chocolate at least!) but that premium bittersweet chocolate used made it a more worthy order.
