Seah Street Deli

Excellent service guaranteed. Nowhere else can be better, really. First, the indian waiter recognised us and offered our previous seat (which we politely declined because it was too cramped), then i had an automatic refill of HOT water, without any request needed. Food was up to mark and we had 50% off with Dad's Feed at Raffles card.

What can beat all that?

Lox, Stock & Bagel ($14.95)

Again i got the bagel changed to grilled rye bread, lightly toasted on one side and still difficult to cut and chew. The taste was oddly sourish but filled with quality ingredients... fresh wide rolls of smoked salmon, onion rings, caper seeds, tomatoes & butterhead lettuce.

What a fine dish of those things i love. Beside it were cubes of cream cheese and my choice of coleslaw.

Pork Burger ($16.95)

Dad's burger arrived in two deconstructed halves, one side topped with veggie inserts while the other highlighted with a patty, cheese and bacon strips. That round meaty clump looked reddish but cooked just right and juicy with hot fried served aside.

He also ordered an Earl Grey tea ($6) of a fine-tasting brand he happened to encounter in Prague. Good quality food, good service & good value all under one roof.

Jerry's BBQ & Grill

Settled in its unpretentious location in Jalan Kayu, this all american restaurant becomes a convenient alternative if you get sick of pratas. Splurging a little more satisfied my western food fetish on an acceptable note.

This place had a typical setup on the inside, small with a few tables laid with red-checked tablecloths. Airplane memorabilias filled the area and i even noticed a food lift to transport dishes from the kitchen below! how interesting.

Deep Fried Mushrooms ($10.95)

A signature at Jerry's. Huge batter-dipped button mushrooms are deep-fried to a piping hot starter served with tartar sauce. Do not expect those extreme flowing of juices, it didn't quite come through.

Grilled Salmon Fish Fillet ($21.95)

Served with fragrant dill rice, steamed vegetables and a spicy thai sauce on the side. The sauce had no link to the style of cuisine but salmon-wise, the dish did pass the mark. Not very cheap though.

Memphis Style Hickory-Smoked Barbeque Pork Ribs ($19.95)

Half-slab with french fries and coleslaw. That long name sure made, the ribs were thoroughly flavoured but just too measly.

Pecan Pie with Icecream ($6.95)

Ending the meal with a pecan pie was sure an ideal thought for me. Their warm round pie comes with vanilla icecream and lots of strawberry sauce- too much to the extent of a sugar overdose. Even the pie itself contained a ton of syrup.

Billy's Power

When Dad thinks of a sausage meal, it is most likely Billy Bombers that will give him a satisfying fix. This time i was glad to be given a seat beside the kitchen where i could get an eye-opening view of the chefs at work. They were swift and efficient in dishing out plates of hearty american food.

Route 66 ($14.50)

My burger deserved a good lengthy commentry. The bun was made with much skill, so distinctly toasted till you get flaking crisps on the outside and soft bites inside. Today's tender and soft chicken thigh also surpassed the usual standards, with much more mushrooms given. Best one ever served here!

American Hound Dog ($11.80)

Dad's beef dog. Also enjoyed.

Seah Street Deli

We patronised for dinner two days in a row- largely because of the seasonal American dessert series (that only lasts for a week), and the engaging service.

Splashes of red and white. This deli beared a certain resemblence to Billy Bombers except with a unique colonnial touch to it. There were hits & misses foodwise but desserts left a solid impression.

Grilled Salmon Steak ($18.95)

Dad & i both had this on our first visit. I couldn't quite figure why he loved it despite the poor marination and bland drizzlings of dill cream sauce. Nothing too impressive overall, perhaps maybe that garlic mash... nicely done to an ultra smooth texture.

Lox, Stock & Bagel ($14.95)

Grilled Rye bread sounded like a good substitute for the bagel (tough and heavy in my impression). Fillingwise there were the usual suspects of smoked salmon, onions, capers and cream cheese- an unfailing comfort food of mine.

Nova Scotia Salmon came in thick large rolls on an unbearably tough bread- i swore cutting and chewing was a chore.

Footlong Beef Dog ($14.95)

LLLLLLLLOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGGG is the perfect word to describe it. A skinny dog on an elongated sesame bun with fries. Dad obviously skipped the latter.

Pecan Pie with Tahitian Vanilla Icecream ($12)

We got the Whisky Raisin icecream replaced with Tahitian Vanilla- selected from the Raffles Creamery menu. The pie itself was a credible version. My first attempt at it yet the warm chocolately nature and chockfull of nuts already took to my liking.

American Carrot Cake ($15)

The next day we returned for this which oooh... won me over! Its amazing how an odd mix of carrot shreds, walnut bits and spices could taste so good. This slice came remarkably moist, delectably releasing a tone of spices and coated in a lovely cream cheese frosting.

Not only the food wow-ed, service was equally pleasurable. Bound to be back.

Hogging Out

Already mentioned as a value-for-money set lunch, worth a return trip with Sharolyn. Prices start from $12.80 onwards for a range of authentic american mains. Be prepared for quality food in non-skimpy portions- and a few clueless waiters churning out good laughs.

Mushroom Soup

Clam Chowder

Filling up just half a regular mug, the soups first make you curse and swear about their stingy portions.. then win forgiveness with its quality. I loved my load of funghi goodness and was craving for more. They may seem scheming but come to think of it, it could be a thoughtful plot to reserve stomach space.

Chicken Dijonnaise ($12)

Grilled chicken breast fillets topped with avocado and an accompanying dijon mustard sauce. Quite a foolproof dish with good hog tail fries and a salad as sides.

Grilled Steak Sandwich ($12)

A grilled steak slice, cheese, beetroot, tomato, grilled onions and Hickory BBQ sauce gathered between toasted Vienna bread.

Mississippi Mud Cake

Like as if the mains were not enough to tackle, desserts came as another big bang. Sturdy slice of dense mudcake, chocolate fudge sauce, vanilla icecream and whipped cream. Too bad the cakes didn't really work our for me... i certainly liked the icecream more than that dry crumbly cake.

Sandwiches at New York New York

Dropped in for a light lunch with Dad. It is his first sandwich attempt here after my multiples raves about their New Yorker. Ironically, none of us picked that.

And my new choice did not disappoint.

Smoked Salmon Velvet ($8.90)

All i wanted was a simple smoked salmon sandwich with all that fanciful salmon mayo stuffs eliminated. It became so neat and delightful.

Once again an outstanding grilled whole-wheat bread, together with an assemble of marinated tomatoes, roasted red peppers and sauteed onions... it all went so well with those thin semi-cooked smoked salmon slices. Quite salty but still good.

Egg Mayo Sandwich ($6.90)

Dad kept his choice even simpler. Apparently this classic appeared too tasteless for him that he had to sprinkle more salt and pepper.

Latte ($4.80)

Pleasurable yet affordable sandwiches. Need i say more?

Carl's Jr.

i happily walked into Plaza Singapura's Carls Jr...

This is it. My well-loved chicken burger~

Charbroiled BBQ Chicken Sandwich ($7.70)

3 words to describe it:
Fresh, huge and addictive!

Nice honey wheat bun, sweet delectable BBQ sauce and of course.. an amazingly large and luscious chicken breast patty. Every bite of it revealed meat so tender, flavoursome and juicy, it beats Macs, BK or any other fastfood chain handsdown.

A whopping damage incurred, but 100% satisfaction guranteed.

To think of it, i ought thank this lunching partner of mine. Shar was the one bestie girlfriend who introduced such a wonder to me.

Western Bacon Cheeseburger

Her giant meal featured a charbroiled all-beef patty, two strips of bacon, melted American cheese, two crispy onion rings and tangy BBQ sauce on a sesame seed bun. What a feast.

Beef Chilli Cheese Fries

Shoestring potatoes smothered in hearty chili sauce and topped with grated cheese. Of course, i wasn't able to attempt this.

Seriously think this american establishment lives up to its name of quality mega charbroiled burgers. Though prices are a tad more expensive, the food is definitely worthy to pay for. Just the sizes are already justifyable enough.

and i made a happy exit... with all cravings satisfied.

Tony Romas

How much i missed this place! Our family used to frequent here when i was young but have never stepped in ever since... naturally it became the first choice for my birthday celebration dinner.

Bread with Garlic Spread

The meal started off with baguette bread to go with their unforgettably good garlic spread. Half a loaf is just enough for the four of us. Had to go for their signature ribs!

Half Rack Baby Back Ribs, baked potatoes & corn

A standard half rack baby back ribs with choice of two sides would make a sufficient meal. Choose from corn, savoury rice, baked potatoes, coleslaw, or pinto beans. Mum and sis stuck to their half rack but i was feeling a little greedy for more...

Grilled Prawns & Ribs Combo, corn-on-the-cob & coleslaw

So here's a combo for me. Good old baby back ribs were lipsmackingly good with the delicious glazing of barbeque sauce, accompanied with five succulent prawns. Even the sides fared well- corn cooked just right, not too soft nor buttery. overall this is a dish i truly enjoy that brings back some childhood memories.

Dad had a combo too... with an undersized steak.

Sirloin Steak & Ribs Combo

All in all, this is still my ideal place for quality ribs!

Black Angus Set Lunch

Dad was on leave so we finally had a chance to come for their set lunch. For a price of $21.90, their sets with a soup, salad, main dish, dessert, cold beverage AND a hot beverage is absolutely worthwhile!

Raspberry Smoothie

I'm surprised they even offer raspberry smoothies as one of the cold beverage options. A sour and refreshing icy blend of fresh raspberry puree, not the artificial syrup.

For starters we both chose the soup of the day, which was warm and palatable enough for me to finish. The garden salad on the other hand didn't do for me with veggies not particularly fresh and dressing disliked.

French Onion Soup

Garden Salad with Vinnaigrette

Fresh Baked Salmon

A healthy rendition marvellously done. Baked just right to nice tone of raw pink and optimal moisture retained, nowhere near overcooked. The seasonings were simple yet delectable- i reckon its purely black pepper and salt. Best of all we had a choice of our preferred side and the seasonal vegetables were a good match especially since its my favourite carrots and broccolis.

Chocolate Fudge Cake, served with Earl Grey Tea

A sweet ending of chocolate cake which i found rather dry and overkilling with sugar- the frosting layer was ultra sweet! Had to down it with tea in order to reduce on the sweetness. Edible, but certainly not on my to-order-list.

Service staffs were polite. The manager even asked how we felt about our meal, which was definitely a plus point. One of the most worthy place for a fulfilling quality set lunch.
