The utilisation of Dad's Feed at Raffles voucher brought us back for a second round of Swiss sandwiches. You could call this a complete made-to-order, where total flexibilty is granted for the DIY Sandwich selection. Choices were plentiful and you get to pick your preferred bread, filling, cheese, veggie and sauce.
Walnut Bread with Smoked Salmon ($17)
Smoked Salmon, Tomatoes, Cucumbers & Dijon Mustard. My choice of bread was clearly not a mistake- it tasted fresh and nothing out of stale flour. A bowl of corn tortillas and creamed new potatoes also added to substantiate the meal.
Rye Croissant with Tuna Mayo ($17)Tuna mayo, cheddar cheese, tomatoes & wasabi mayo were his choices. Every component looked enticing and the rye croissant a delightful healthier intake. We faced some issues with dessert-ordering but still got our sugar-fix eventually. The entire confusion between the irresponsible captain, the dessert chef and that indian waiter sure managed to amuse me.
Engadine Walnut Tart with Mocca Crisp Icecream ($11)
After all the trouble to get a taste of this, we realised how worthless it was. Except for that vanilla nougatine, the other two components (mocca icecream and walnut tart) were simply unrewarding. Way too sticky to please.
I'm pretty amazed by their system here- you do not pay as you order, you pay before you leave. Certainly not opened by a local, this Central outelet is ran by an odd but approachable Middle Eastern fella who would initiate sentences with his customers.
Smoked Salmon Sandwich ($8.90)
O'Briens is an Irish establishment, which really blanks me since i saw no form of irish culture in the food. I went for my comfort choice with acceptable slices and a secure match of cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuce. Their specialty wholemeal bread, thicker than usual came without any wonderful display in the mouth. If only they could give it a little toast. Also had chips by the side (i think the caucasians love it).

Egg Club Sandwich ($6.90)Toasted ciabatta bread sandwiching ham, a fluffy cooked egg and cuts of thick cheese semi-melted to sticky goo. A display of the usual suspects i would crave for. Chose vanilla ceylon tea to match, for its rich buttery aroma.
Ever tried Swiss sandwiches? Well, at least i haven't.
At dinner here i stared into a menu full of unfamiliar breads... Rye "Buerli", White "Tessinerli", Zurcher Loaf. erm, hello mr strangers? Only after some assistance from the waiter did we manage to make our choices.Dad grabbed a pre-designed sandwich off the list for convenience while i chose to assemble my own. Approrately picked my classic smoked salmon to go with Rye "Buerli" bread, rocket salad and tomatoes. Grain mustard as condiment, nothing too gimmicky. The final product did surprise.
Rye "Buerli" with smoked salmon, rocket salad & tomatoes ($17)I'll first pinpoint on the bread. Considering this is my first rye attempt, their rustic version sure gave me a fairly good impression. It was interestingly dense and hard with charred edges all-round.Then for the salmon, they threw in a reasonable portion of shaved mild tasting ones. These probable home-smoked stuffs were well-sufficient to justify its hefty pricetag. Mustard was yums and those fresh corn chips with baby potato salad made suitable sides.
Honey-glazed Farmer Ham with tomato & gherkins on Rye "Buerli" and Fruit Chutney ($17)Dad's chef selection sandwich (supposedly safer) took him aback as well. His version of rye came as three dainty balls connected together instead of typical flat slices. But because he prefers it crusty like that, it was conclusively an unregretted choice.
Warm Bitter Chocolate Fondant with Berries Compote ($11)Our dessert took 15 minutes- a sign of it being freshly baked but with a slight letdown by the portion. This flat paltry thing was obviously insufficent to share but we still did so anyways. Surface was crusty with a tinge of molten middle and it passably beared the gist of bittersweetness. And there was more to that vanilla-looking scoop. It offered little bits of granola-like crunch with a sharp harmonious sugar rushes tasting like nougat.
The total amount for our sandwiches and dessert hit just right for our feed at raffles voucher. I must say this was a good experience for us, having the most special sandwiches eaten. swiss style!Cafe Swiss2 Stamford Road2F Swissotel the Stamford
